CITIZEN MATTERS
The big voting day is almost upon us. Tomorrow, Bengaluru will go to polls and we will decide whose hands to leave the fate of the city in. For the past month, Citizen Matters has been covering the BBMP Elections 2015 with much fervour. We hope this helps you with your decision before you cast your vote. Results of BBMP Elections 2010. BJP in orange, Congress in blue, JDS in green and Independent candidates in pink. See our Elections Dashboard here. This is your go-to page for all the information that you need. * Zone pages with information about all the wards under each zone – Dasarahalli | Rajarajeshwari | South | Bommanahalli | Yelahanka | West | East | Mahadevapura. * Ward pages with candidate details, tender info, complaints etc – Click here for the list of wards. (Please note: We have been able to cover only the below mentioned wards in detail. You can find information for all other wards on the zone pages). * A guide to voting day On the last day of campaigning, we wanted to get some ground coverage, beyond the facts. From being offered cash for coverage, to hearing how voters are taking to candidates, it truly was an eye opener. Read: On the trail of the great Bengaluru election tamasha! All of this would not have been possible without the support of Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy and BBMP Restructuring Committee who shared the data for the wards, and Thejesh GN who helped us create the maps. A huge shoutout to them! If you have found our coverage of the BBMP Elections to be useful to you, and would like to support our journalism so we can continue to do work in this vein, please contribute to Oorvani Foundation, that funds all this work. We assure you that we will be back to our usual coverage of all that’s happening in Bengaluru as soon as we have that little dot of ink on our fingers. Here’s what else happened around the city: The state is facing severe power-crunch due to lack of monsoons, as 30% of electricity is produced from hydro-electric power. What the press note from the Power Ministry does not call out is this: Brace yourself for power cuts. Read: Here’s why Bengaluru will have to face power cuts sooner or later. BMTC bags the National Public Transport Excellence Award for maintaining cleanliness at depots and bus stands. MD Ekroop Caur received the award from Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at a ceremony in New Delhi. Read: Accolades for BMTC.
