Writing about something is better when one tries it out too. I wrote about the Free Shuttle offered by BMTC between the City Railway Station and the BMTC (Majestic) Bus Station, here so, when I returned from Hospet last Monday morning (13th September 2010), I decided to try it out.For a start, the Free Shuttle stand is right in front of the entry/exit point of the Station, and clearly marked. As you come out of the exit and face the Prepaid Auto stand, it is to the left of the stand. I had to wait about 15 min for the shuttle, and…

In some ways, a theatre group has it easier when it is playing to an audience of children. Children are much more willing to suspend disbelief, and are easily entertained....and if the audience that I saw queueing up at Ranga Shankar on the evening of the 1st of September was any indication, that was true that day, too.I asked a few children, and their mothers, how they had heard about "Tenali Raman", the play that Bangalore Little Theatre was putting up that evening. Padma said that she had received an email from Indianstage, and Ranjani said that she often came…

Farewell to Murthy….

We've all noticed him there....lying under the first table in the Ranga Shankara cafe, and sometimes ambling around as if he owned the place. Well, he did....! Murthy had been a fixture at Ranga Shankara ever since I started going there, and I was sad to find that an obituary notice had been put up at Ranga Shankara... Murthy loved the theatre, and would attend all platform shows.....here's wishing farewell to a staunch fan of the performing arts, who did not need to have the ability to speak a human language to like Ranga Shankara and its environs... ⊕

Nearly two and a half years after work began, there may finally be light at the tunnel, or in this case, an underpass. Construction on the JP Nagar 15th cross Ring Road in south Bengaluru is scheduled to be completed by the third week of September. Signs of completion have emerged as work entered the 30th month. Pic: Venkatesan Perumal. Highly placed sources in the BBMP have confirmed this to Citizen Matters but refused to comment on when the underpass itself will be inaugurated thereafter. The BBMP official says that work left to be completed includes painting, lighting, laying of…

Rakhi tales from the market places in Jayanagar At Jayanagar 4th block, Subhramanyam, the owner of a dainty store is disheartened with the turnout for Raksha Bandhan. "I haven't made many sales this year. There is a lot of variety and price ranges, but the turnout in the market is too less somehow." Pic: Sneha Koilada. When asked for the possible reasons for the disappointing sales, he opines, "There could be any number of reasons. The overall turnout in the market itself is dropping of course.
