Cycle rental service launched in Sanjay Nagar

After launching 'Walk to School' programme, now Sanjay Nagar has climbed one more step, by enabling cycling infrastructure and rental service.

The Bengaluru In-charge Minister K J George launched the cycle stands and cycle sharing rental services in Sanjay Nagar on Saturday February 17, 2018. BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad, Corporators of wards 18 and 19, Anand and Indira Subhash and residents of Sanjaynagar were present in the event.

     

The Minister, Commissioner and the corporators took a ride in the cycle as a part of the launch. Minister K J George and the BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad spoke supportive of the initiative and encouraged people to take up such initiatives in other areas. The commissioner requested the residents to partner with BBMP and come up with more such initiatives.

The Cycle Stands were installed by CiFoS ( Citizens for Sustainability) with the funds they received by winning a grant as a part of NIP (Neighbourhood Improvement Partnership) enabled by United Way of Bengaluru. 250 cycle stands will be placed in different locations in and around Sanjaynagar. CiFoS encourages residents to start cycling short distances in the neighbourhood and stay healthy and also reduce pollution and traffic congestion.

The cycle Rental services are provided by Pedl from Zoomcar. Intially they will be providing 70 rental cycles across 13 locations in and around sanjaynagar. Residents who want to use the rental cycles will have to download the zoomcar app . The rental cycles come with a basket in the front, making it convenient for residents to use these cycles for their local shopping and move away from taking a two wheeler or four wheeler for this purpose. Pedl has an inaugural offer of Rs. 2 per Hour as rental charges.

CiFoS team submitted a request to the Minister and BBMP Commissioner to  implement Rain Water Harvesting in all government offices and public spaces like parks and playgrounds in Bangalore.

Citizens For Sustainability (CiFoS) is an NGO working on sustainable livability initiatives in Sanjaynagar. The members are well-qualified professionals with many years of experience in public service, public policy, leadership, architecture, urban planning, design and technology. CiFoS started working on mobility interventions in the form of Cycle Day about three years ago, and started the walk-to-school programme there.
