Another ‘Cycle Day’ is being organized by Yelahanka United Environment Association (YUVA) in partnership with Directorate of Urban Land Transport, UDD, Government of Karnataka in Yelahanka New Town on Sunday, 12th April 2014, 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The venue is the area next to Allalasandra Lake. Entry is free for all.
The morning will commence with a cycle rally around Allalasandra Lake and the main roads of Yelahanka New Town (around 6.5 km). Around 3000 cyclists, local citizens, Yelahanka MLA, Corporators are expected to participate in this edition of Cycle Day. The students of IEEE Bangalore Section will be the volunteers.
Free cycle rentals will be provided at the venue with original photo ID/school id as security deposit. A slow cycle race will be organized on the 100ft street which will be blocked for traffic.
Traditional games have been planned – chowka bhara, kunte balle, lagori, marbles, snakes and ladders, top spinning, passing the ball, bombing the city, chess, gully cricket, badminton, volleyball, throw ball, chess, blindfold and hit the target and balloon blast.
An all-women’s Dollu Kunitha, Veeragase and Huli vesha troupes will demonstrate Karnataka’s rich janapada culture. Other attractions to look out for – street magic show, dance programs by the local children, fitness demonstration by SNAP Fitness, cycle workshop by Sangam Cycles, free basic health checkup, Taekwondo demonstration by children of Ramu-RWF Training Centre, Slow motion dance by Mr.Chetan and troupe, display of high end international bicycles. Light breakfast will be arranged at the venue.
Cycle Day has been organised at regular intervals with the objective of popularizing cycling within the locality thereby helping in reducing motorized traffic, reducing pollution, reducing fuel consumption and improving the health and fitness of the individual, apart from creating awareness about the importance of conserving lakes in Bangalore city.
