99% of Mumbai vaccinated at least once, according to BMC data
Ninety-nine percent of Mumbai’s population has been vaccinated at least once, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data. BMC said it administered 15.067 million vaccine doses (both doses) until November 10. This includes vaccine doses administered at all private, municipal, state and central government-operated vaccination centres since January 16 this year, when the vaccination drive began across the country. The city’s eligible population is 9,236,500.
“So far, a total of 9,204,950 beneficiaries have been given their first dose, of which 5,862,933 beneficiaries have received both their doses.” A BMC statement said. According to the BMC’s vaccination dashboard, 99% of the city’s target population is vaccinated with the first dose and 63% is fully vaccinated.

BMC to increase number of wards from 227 to 236
After a 20-year-gap, the number of wards in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to increase from the existing 227 to 236.
The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the decision to increase the total number of wards as part of the decadal review of corporation seats with an aim to ensure that the total number of seats in various Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils are consistent with the population increase in the respective areas.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), opposed the move to increase the number of seats, calling it an attempt by the Shiv Sena to postpone BMC elections.

Infrastructure negligence kills 1 in Santacruz
Despite an internal structural audit that termed the building as dilapidated and dangerous, failure to act led to the death of a security guard on Monday as part of a balcony collapsed on him. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have refused to take the body till compensation is given to them. The incident took place at Maheshwar Darshan CHS, a 55-year-old building, which houses 45 flats, shops and a nursing home.
Pramod Yadav, 40, was sitting near gate no. 2 of the society when the balcony wall of Smriti Nursing Home collapsed and fell on his head. Yadav was rushed to Ramkrishna Mission Hospital in Khar where he was declared dead on arrival.

Dedicated bus service for women in Mumbai from November 6
Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), the civic transport undertaking in Mumbai, on Wednesday announced that it would launch a dedicated bus service for women from November 6. The service will start on 70 routes in the city with 100 buses, it said in a release.
Of 70 routes, 10 will be “ladies special”, which means only women passengers will be able to board the buses dedicated for this service. The remaining 60 routes will be “ladies first” ones, where women passengers will be given priority at the first bus stop.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had directed it to start a “ladies special” and “ladies first” service for easing the commute of women passengers in the Mumbai, BEST said.

1 killed in fire at high-rise in Kandivali
One person was killed and another injured after a fire broke out in a 15-storey residential building in suburban Kandivali (West) on Saturday evening, a civic official said.
The fire started in a flat on the 14th floor of Hansa Heritage building on Mathuradas Road around 8.30 pm, he said.
Police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot with four fire engines and three jumbo tankers and started rescue and dousing operations.
Two persons who had sustained serious burn injuries were rushed to Shatabdi Hospital and one of them was declared dead before admission, the official said. The exact cause of the fire was not known yet and firefighting was underway, he added.
