A battery of senior officials of the Bangalore Metro came to a Public Hearing called by Ranganathaswamy, Asst Conservator of Forests (Bangalore South) and Tree Officer of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. The officials came armed with power points demonstrating that the Metro is a major progress from ancient forms of transport. However, the extension is a mere 2.5 kilometres on Reach 3 (B) - the Peenya Industry – Nagasandra stretch. The trial runs began on September 30, 2014, and the service is likely to be inaugurated in December 2014 or January 2015. It’s official. Namma Metro Reach 3 and 3a services from Malleshwaram to Peenya in namma Bengaluru will open for public use from March 1st, 2014. Urban and Land Transport and District in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy along with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola announced this on February 24th, 2014, at a press conference held at Rajajinagar Metro Station. Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board  (KIADB) conducted the first hearing for the owners of properties to be acquired for alignment of Metro Phase II on 4 September, 2013.
