5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day every year.   This year, the trust MAPSAS (Mahadevapura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti, working at several lakes in East Bangalore) along with Say Trees, will be planting more than 400 indigenous tree saplings at Kasavanahalli Lake. Approval of the BBMP who is the custodian of the lake has been received.   Kasavanahalli Lake, Haralur, is about 22 acres, and is the first lake upstream of Kaikondrahalli Lake, off Sarjapur Road.     About 100-120 volunteers from four corporates (3M, AIG, EMC, San Engineering) are expected. Over the last ten days, there has been much excitement among the residents of the Lower Ambalipura Lake area. This 7-acre water body, off Sarjarpur Main Road, is home to several species of birds through the year, but Painted Storks, one of Bangalore's water birds, have been only ocassionally spotted here, singly or in pairs. People's Campaign for Right to water- Karnataka (PCRW-K) is a campaign pushing for a water democracy that protects water as a common property resource and provides safe, sufficient and clean water for all. With the sun's heat accelerating the rate of evaporation, the water level has fallen sharply in our Puttenahalli Lake and there are no more than four or five pools of water left. We have been consoling ourselves with the thought that this is still far, far better than this time last year when we had literally a few buckets of water in the entire lake. Fish had died in scores then and the lake bed was hard and with cracks and crevices. Dance at Dusk

The Dance at Dusk organized on 26th April by PNLIT together with the Snehadhara Foundation was truly an event with a difference. Attended by over 60 people, most of them adults, the Gazebo was cramped for space. Some mothers held back their children for safety but ironically, the evening began with a three year old running into the middle of the ring of dancers and twirling her yellow frilly frock. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered an interim stay on the mega-project coming up on the land between Bellandur and Agara lakes, in Bengaluru. This was in response to a petition filed by The Forward Foundation, Bangalore, Praja RAAG, Bangalore and Bangalore Environment Trust.
