The fate of the 140 cases of building violation registered in 2012 with Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) is hanging in balance, awaiting the Supreme Court’s final order. In a press conference held on May 5, 2014 at BBMP head office, BMTF Chief Additional General of Police Rajvir P Sharma told press persons that out of 208 cases registered in 2012, 140 cases of building violations in private properties were put on hold on account of High Court’s order on October 2013 that said the BMTF has no jurisdiction on illegal construction on private properties. It may be few more days before the work is complete. Regrettably due to delay in this work, some sewage is trickling into the lake, despite blocking the inlets. I am a senior citizen residing in the Ranka Colony Road, in Bilekahalli, on the road above the mega storm water drain. I would like to bring to the notice of the authorities concerned, the problems that the residents in this area face. This happens to be daily reality for 10,000+ people using the Kasavanhalli Main Road from Hindu Temple at the Kaikondrahalli Junction till Amrutha College. Residents staying in HSR Layout Sector-2 around Somasundarpalya, Haralukunte Village and Parangipalya in South Bengaluru have been dealing with foul and unbearable smell emanating from the waste composting plant belonging to Karnataka Compost Development Corporation (KCDC) located 2 km away. Some residents claim that the smell reached them even 3 kms away, though of course with less intensity. Some areas in Bengaluru faced power cut in the last few days, even when the Energy Department of Karnataka submitted to the High Court that the state has surplus power. However the reason is the pre-monsoon maintenance work being carried out by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM).
