About the constituency
[flexiblemap src=”http://data.opencity.in/Data/Karnataka-Assembly-Constituency-160.kml” width=”100%” height=”400px” ]
Sarvagnanagar constituency, located in the north-east of the city, has a mix of developed as well as developing areas. The constituency includes Nagavara, HBR Layout, Banasavadi, Kammanahalli, Kacharkanahalli, Kadugondanahalli, Lingarajapura and Maruthi Seva Nagar wards. Like other suburbs in the Cantonment area, Cox Town has a large Tamil population.
While the constituency has a large number of educational institutions, hospitals and commercial establishments, the infrastructural development has not kept pace with the population influx. The main problems raised by citizens in these wards include bad roads and poor drainage systems. HBR Layout is full of potholes, badly asphalted roads and irregular Cauvery water supply.
The lack of sanitary outlets in the layouts has also created problems, according to Muniraju N, Secretary of Hennur Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA). Even though sanitary connections have been provided from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board ( BWSSB), lack of outlets makes sanitary pipelines empty into open drains.
The constituency had 1,07,946 voters in 2008, which increased to 1,40,703 in 2013. Today, the total number of registered voters here is 3,34,473.
