Exclusive vaccine camp to target senior citizens
In a bid to vaccinate the elderly population in Chennai who visit hospitals as outpatients, the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) has inaugurated a dedicated vaccine camp at the geriatric ward of the institution. The hospital receives about 150 to 200 senior citizens as outpatients every day. The hospital also inaugurated a 24/7 vaccine centre for vaccinating outpatients.
The Chennai Corporation had conducted a mega vaccination drive last week that clocked 1.25 lakh doses. The civic body had set up 400 camps that also 200 mobile camps.

Suburban local bodies directed to offer services online
The Municipal Administration Department of Tamil Nadu has issued a circular to all local bodies directing them to ensure they offer their services online.
State municipal administration department has urged all municipalities and corporations other than the Greater Chennai Corporation to ensure that their services (cases of filing self-assessment of property tax returns, levy and collection of property tax, application for name transfer of property tax and the issue of name transfer orders) are offered online for the public.
In his order, the director of municipal administration stated that the urban tree information system website should be used to improve the ease of doing business and to help the residents of Avadi corporation, Pallavaram municipality, Tambaram municipality, Sriperumbudur town panchayat and others that are situated around Chennai.

Tolls on OMR suspended
As the next phase of the Metro rail project is underway, the Minister for PWD and Highways EV Velu announced that the four tollbooths operating on OMR – Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Kalaignar Salai, and Medavakkam – will be suspended from August 30th.
The Minister also announced that the government will take measures to permanently close down five toll plazas near Chennai including Chennasamudram, Paranur, Nemili, Vanagaram, and Soorapattu.
The minister also added that the cost estimate has been prepared for the construction of the pending six flyovers on Rajiv Gandhi Salai.

Rs 500 crore to repair Chennai roads
Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru announced that roads and walkways in six places in the city corporation would be mended and reconditioned at a cost of Rs 300 crores funded by the World Bank.
He also announced the construction of a new fish market on Loop Road at a cost of Rs 10.75 crore and the construction of stormwater drains that is estimated to cost around Rs 120 crore.
The Minister announced a Rs 200 crore scheme to rejuvenate 25 water bodies for water conservation and improve the groundwater recharging capability.
