Month end, what’s the status of Kadirenahalli underpass?

An update on the JNNURM underpass project at Kadirenalli road junction, Outer Ring Road. BBMP chief had said it would be ready by end of the month.

According to BBMP’s second quarter status report for JNNURM projects, 2009-10, the sanctioned cost was Rs 24.86 crores, with BBMP putting up 50% of the funds. The tender was awarded in March 2008, with the project scheduled to complete in January 2009 as per the Detailed Project Report. In the same report, BBMP gives reason for delay as:  "Sital conditions (faced hard rock which has to be blasted), traffic diversion are the reasons for delay. And another major problem is land acquisition."

The Deccan Herald reported on September 13th about the Kadirenahalli underpass getting ready to be opened. It said the BBMP Commissioner H Siddaiah inspected the underpass and BBMP has decided to open the facility by end of the month, atleast one way. The report adds, ‘The route from Uttarahalli main road towards Padmanabhanagar and Jayanagar will be opened for vehicular movement’.

In July, Bangalore Mirror reported engineers of the contractor Madhava HighTech Infrastructure were using    untreated water for curing the concrete pillars.

S Srinivasan, a resident of Uttarahalli, has sent in some pictures. The state of the underpass construction, as on September 20th can be seen. He says, ‘It is my view that it is a long long way off for this junction to be operational.
