A Saturday on the tracks at Kanteerava

Children between the ages of 9 and 17 have the opportunity to participate in the athletics meet at Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, May 21. Here are the details.

Bangalore will be celebrating the World Athletics Day Meet on Saturday, the 21st of May at Shri Kanteerva Stadium from 9 AM onwards. This event is organised by Fusion Athletica, which has joined hands with the Karnataka Athletics Association, guided by International Association of Athletics Federations & Athletics Federation of India.

This meet targets kids from the different age groups to compete in races, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus throw all under one roof. "We have been promoting this meet through various news channels and newspapers as schools are closed for the vacations right now. But despite that, registrations have been pouring in and we are expecting close to 800 participants this Saturday", adds Kiran Nandakumar, The Chief Coach of Lawn Tennis in Fusion Athletica.

Participants can register on the spot paying Rs. 50. There is no entry fee for spectators. The organisers have received great support from sponsors and this has enabled them to keep their registration fees to a bare minimum.

Event details

For the under-9 age group, (born before 16-05-2002) – 50 metres, 200 metres and long jump.

For the under-11 age group (born before 16-05-2000) – 60 metres, 300 metres, high jump and long jump.

For the under-13 age group (born before 16-05-1998) – 80 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, high jump and long jump.

For the under-15 age group (born before 16-05-1996) – 100 metres, 400 metres, 1000 metres, high jump, long jump, shot put and discus throw.

For the under-17 age group (born before 16-05-1995) – 100 metres, 400 metres, 1500 metres, high jump, long jump, shot put and discus throw.

Fusion Athletica was formed by former sports athletes like Pramila Aiyappa and Narsimha Murthy in the year of 2009. Their main aims are to groom, support and bring up the youth of this country by creating a platform for them in their respective sport. After their highly successful Fusion Athletica AITA Talent Series, the Athletic meet is the second event that they are conducting at such a large scale.
