Bullet fired at Art of Living campus

An incident last Saturday at Sri Sri Ravishankar ashram saw a gunman firing a .32 calibre pistol. The lone bullet is reported to have injured a devotee. Security has been increased for Ravishankar, who also invited the gunman to his satsang.

IT Investment Region near Devanahalli

IT and BT minister Katta Subramanya Naidu says the first phase of an integrated IT city, with 2,500 acres will be completed in two to three years.

Mahindra buys out Reva
Mahindra & Mahindra have bought a 55% stake in Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), the Bangalore-based manufacturer of electric cars. General Motors, Reva’s technological partner has pulled out.

Passport Seva Kendras opened
The city’s first two Passport Seva Kendras was opened, in Lalbagh Road and in Marathahalli ORR, on May 28. Applicant reported hiccups on the first few days. Many functions are now available online. A toll free number -1800-258-1800, has also been launched.

Best Indian city for expats

Mercer’s Worldwide Quality of Living survey ranks Bangalore at #140, making it the best Indian city for expatriates. In Mercer’s ‘Eco-city Ranking 2010’, which looks water, waste managament, pollution and traffic state of the city, Bangalore ranks 198.

Bharathi Urs acquited
A fast-track court acquitted three accused in the murder case of Chithralekha Urs, daughter of former high court judge, Justice Chandrakanth Raj Urs.  The accused included Bharathi Urs, daughter of former chief minister D Devaraj Urs. Chithralekha, a relative of Bharathi, went missing in January 2004 and her body was later found in Shiradi Ghat.

Two more Infosys campuses

Major Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said a state gov committee has cleared Infosys’ investment proposals to set up two campuses at Sarjapur and at Devanahalli. The firm is said to have acquired around 300 acres on Sarjapur Road in 2007.
