Volvo Buses invites entries for Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award 2013

Participate in this if your group or organisation has made a positive impact in the area of sustainable mobility, be it concerning public transport, bicycle, pedestrian safety, or just about any initiative in the interest of sustainable mobility.

Volvo Buses, India is calling for entries for the third edition of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Awards 2013.

Instituted in 2011, this award aims to reward progressive and practical action in the area of promoting sustainable solutions in urban mobility. For more information about the contest, visit www.volvobuses.co.in. Register and submit, if your group or organisation has made a positive impact in the area of sustainable mobility that stands out, be it concerning public transport, bicycle, pedestrian safety, or just about any initiative in the interest of sustainable mobility. Last date for registrations is August 31, 2013. Last date for submission of final entries is September 10, 2013.

The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award has been instituted to recognise outstanding efforts in the broad area of sustainability. It also seeks to award practical action and engagement with society in this regard and carries prize money of INR 1 million, which includes a first prize of INR 700,000 and INR 300,000 for the runner-up.

General Criterion for Eligibility

  • All efforts in the general area of sustainable mobility are eligible. However, organisations directly involved with manufacturing or operating public transport as part of their business are not eligible for the main award with respect to their core business

Application guidelines

All applicants are requested to prepare the report in the format the following for final submissions.

  • Define the project with a clear objective
  • Purpose and scope of the project
  • Achievements till date
  • Next steps planned
  • References
  • CV of the group / individuals involved

The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award aims at creating a culture of supporting progressive and practical steps, positively engaging the world around us to deliver sustainable transport solutions and thereby better quality of life to millions of people. This includes initiatives both in city transport and long-distance travel. The objective of this award is for Volvo Buses to engage with all the stake holders in public transportation, supporting them and also learning in the process.

Past winners of Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award

Entries submitted in the previous editions of this award, dealt with subjects ranging from efforts to streamline bus services on key traffic corridors to urban planning that addressed issues like city road planning to promoting commuter rail as an alternative for people to commute. Last year, this award was bagged by EMBARQ India and Indian Urban Space Foundation, with Praja as runners up.

Mapunity was announced winner for the first edition of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award in 2011. Praja was given a special recognition for their efforts in addressing a multitude of issues.

The top honours in the second season of the award in 2012 were jointly shared by EMBARQ India and India Urban Space Foundation, while Praja was declared runner-up. The jury also conferred Special Recognitions upon a collaborative effort between Ride-A-Cycle-Foundation with its partners as well as a Group from IIT Madras.
