BBMP has decided to allocate a certain time for public grievances keeping in mind the productivity and security of BBMP staff during working hours. Hence visiting hours between 3pm to 5pm is dedicated to public grievances in all BBMP offices. The staff will not attend to public during the other working hours. Construction wastes and unwanted materials on pedestrian footpaths have been creating a hindrance to vehicular traffic and do not present a pretty picture of the city. BBMP had already made several requests to the public not to dispose of the construction material remains on footpaths and drains. Penalty was imposed when people were caught red-handed disposing the construction materials. But in spite of all this the bad practice has continued. Road is to be widened for 3.3 kms between Yeshwanthpur circle (NH4) and Cauvery junction in Bellary road (NH7), via CNR Rao circle, Maramma Temple circle, Sankey tank road and Bhashyam circle. The entire stretch would be made a six-lane road of 30 m width. BBMP will cut 501 trees and acquire 27,590 sq m of land during the project. Total project cost is around Rs 33 cr. BBMP South officials and Health department officials raided 6 bars, restaurants, canteens and chaat shops in Chickpet area and confiscated about 1 lakh worth of Tobacco leaves and Ganja used in smoking pipes (Hookah). BBMP has started work on 40 km long cycling lane in Jayanagar at a cost of 259 lakh rupees. MLA B N Vijaykumar flagged off the work on cycle lane. BBMP's Education Committee held a meeting on 24th September to discuss about basic infrastructure, playgrounds, cleanliness, and improvement of education in all BBMP Schools and Colleges. The Committee observed that basic infrastructure like drinking water, washrooms, etc was lacking in most schools. Some schools, like those in Magadi Road, had shortage of classrooms. Some others held primary classes in the morning and college classes in the afternoons. In Bangalore, about 3000 to 3500 tons of garbage is collected every day. On special occasions like Ugadi, Ayudh Pooja, Vijayadashami and Deepavali the amount of garbage (organic waste from flowers, fruits, vegetable, banana leaves, etc) increases by 800 to 1000 tons. This garbage is disposed off in vehicles within 2 to 3 days to recycling units.During this diwali season, the garbage collected in KR Market was around 175 tons which was more than the average of 60 to 70 tons per day.
