Residents of Koramangala have managed to get work on a new signal-free corridor project stopped, at least for the time being. Work for building grade separators had started at four junctions on Sarjapur road in June. These are part of BDA’s signal-free corridor project from Agara to Sirsi Circle via Lalbagh road. A day after the fire mishap in a marriage hall in Sumanahalli, a Reliance Footprint outlet in Koramangala caught fire on September 22nd. National Games Village has taken a lead in creating a sustainable zero waste community. Tungabhadra block in the games village have been actively involved in managing the waste their homes generate within their complex for the past three months. It all started with inspiration from Vellore Srinivasan, who has 16 years of experience in implementing Zero Waste Management (ZWM) Projects and the non-profit group AID India coming forward to fund the initial cost of implementing ZWM in NGV. There has been a considerable rise in the waste production of Bengaluru in last 2 years to about 3000-5000 tonnes per day. Also due to limited budget allocated by government for waste management, approx 80% of the waste gets littered away, by some estimates.  BBMP's efforts to keep the city clean are just not enough and hence few responsible citizens have decided to take the necessary initiative.   Last Saturday evening (23rd April 2011), around thirty IT/ITeS Employees gathered under the banner of IT and ITeS Employee Centre (ITEC) in front of Bangalore's Town Hall amidst heavy and incessant rain to condole the shocking suicide of Prabhakar.
