After three years of no city council, the city finally saw the day when its 198 newly-elected corporators took oath to office. The city also welcomed its first citizens, Mayor S K Nataraj and Deputy Mayor N Dayanand, both of who were elected unopposed. There were mixed emotions in the air. Since the formation of Bruhat Bengaluru in January 2007, the BBMP's first ever council session took place on April 23rd. All 198 corporators were sworn in and the city got a new mayor and deputy mayor. Malavalli Chikkanna Charities (MCC), a trust that donated its land in Sheshadripuram to the Karnataka Government for construction of a dispensary is reclaiming it, as the unit has been converted into a storeroom. The dispensary was built in 1957 by the health department on a land spread across 3,000 square feet. There were two doctors along with four other staff for attending patients. As part of their wall painting projects, BBMP painted a compound wall of a 1 acre plot in BTM Layout with social and cultural awareness messages last month. Residents welfare & Cultural Association of BTM and Director of Central Library approached BBMP to get the compound wall painted in November 2009. The work started in February. According to a response given by BBMP to a Citizen Matters RTI application of 2009, four BBMP toilets are shown as having been approved for construction in JP Nagar way back in 2006-7.
