[flexiblemap src=”http://data.opencity.in/Data/Karnataka-Assembly-Constituency-152.kml” width=”100%” height=”400px” ]

Byatarayanapura, among the largest and also the fastest growing in the city, is a comparatively newer constituency in north Bangalore. It comprises the wards Jakkuru, Thanisandra, Byatarayanapura, Kodigahalli, Vidyaranyapura, Dodda Bommasandra, and Kuvempu Nagar.

Famous for the Gali Anjeneyya temple, this constituency is a mix of more developed areas with developing ones. You find an uneven blend of affluent localities, with malls, new colleges and residential areas along with other revenue layouts and less developed, almost village-like areas that lack good infrastructure. Well-developed educational institutions are balanced against government schools. Vokkaligas and minorities form most of the voters. The constituency is straddled by a highway leading to the International Airport as well as the Aerospace Park.

The region is plagued by the usual problems, such as bad roads, lack of proper drainage and scarce drinking water. These are issues that have become gargantuan in many of these revenue areas. Areas like Bhadrappa Layout get water-logged during the rainy season. Public and private organisations are also accused of having taken over farmland, eating into the livelihoods of farmers, even though all the parties promise “holistic development”. Citizens voiced their grievances at Janaspandana, a Citizens’ Forum, bringing together citizens, government and activists to thrash out their issues.

  • The total number of voters in 2008: 1,41,793.
  • Total number of voters in 2013: 2,08,380  At
  • The total number of registered voters currently: 4,19,694.
