Tracking Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byregowda

Being agriculture minister, Krishna Byregowda is known for promoting millet-based food in city level. What else did he do in his term as MLA and minister?

Krishna Byre Gowda, a second generation politician, was first elected to the Assembly in 2003 and was one of the youngest members at 30. He was elected from Vemagal, which fell vacant after the death of his father Byre Gowda, who was a five time MLA from constituency.

He joined the Congress in 2004 and won the constituency again. In 2007 he was elected the President of the Karnataka Youth Congress Committee. In 2008, he moved constituencies and contested from Bytarayanpura in Bangalore. He contested the Parliamentary elections from Bangalore South in 2009 at the behest of Rahul Gandhi, but lost to the sitting MP Anantha Kumar.

He comes from a family of agriculturists and has held independent charge of Ministry of Agriculture. He currently serves as the Agriculture Minister in the Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet (his father was the Agriculture Minister in the JH Patel Cabinet). He has steadily pushed for millet farming since its decline after the green revolution and rebranding it as a superfood. The International Millet and Organic Trade Fair 2018 is his brain child.

His ministry has often been in the news for the spate of farmer suicides. On November 26, 2015, Krishna Byregowda, the Agriculture Minister, spoke at length on the steps taken by the government to assist farmers financially to stop farmer suicides.

  1. Vanita says:

please improve the bus service in tatanagar. people have to walk almost 1 km to catch a bus to majestic and other places and also on their return with luggage; change 2 buses to travel to malleshwaram at a distance of 6 to 7 km! Tatanagar is crisscrossed with mori (gutter) water from surrounding areas; stop treating Tatanagar as a basin for drainage from outside! Also there should be a single point of contact for re-drassal of complaints generated by the residents of this constituency and accounted for by the elected rep. (old and new incumbent) through an efficient digitised administrative machinery. Kodigehalli main road from bhadrappa layout to tatanagar circle needs a thorough clean sweep. This stretch waited for the drain work to finish; later the adhaar building construction got over and still waiting since apartments started to come up and still continuing; Those who travel be this road have to suffer from dust/particulate pollution from increasing number of vehicles plying via this road! these problems may please be addressed immediately even before the elections.

  2. Shruthi says:

Is there a place we can find details about the candidates who are contesting? Their background, agenda , qualification etc., That would help people.
