North-east of Bengaluru has some semi-urban areas or villages — Seegehalli, Kannamangala and Avalahalli among others — which don’t attract anyone, let alone politicians, on an ordinary day. However, P C Mohan was seen campaigning here along with Aravind Limbavali, on April 7th, 2014.
The two leaders of BJP were seen doing a roadshow in an open vehicle that advertised Narendra Modi on one side and P C Mohan on the other.
Citizen Matters caught up with the roadshow at Seegehalli. Three Innovas and a Swift, lined behind each other, swiftly made their way into the narrow lanes of Seegehalli. In no time, a small bunch of people gathered around the open vehicle.
The hot sun blazed over the rally. Undeterred, BJP volunteers continued to try wooing people. PC Mohan told the spectators: “To gain reputation at international level, Vote for Modi! Let BJP win.”
Speaking about the various reforms and increasing high prices of the various commodities, he said, “We need to reform the economic sector to bring down inflation. Country needs to develop and bring reforms in various sectors like technology, health and housing. So vote for BJP, vote for Modi.”
Mahadevpura MLA, Aravind Limbavali said, “I have given attention for the development of this area in terms of road, water and hospitals.” He told people that he was even instrumental in providing homes to the homeless by using schemes.
He asked people to vote for P C Mohan in order to see more development. The spectators clapped as the Limbavali concluded his appeal. The vehicle moved forward to another village, Kannamangala, followed by the line of cars.
Near a temple the car stopped, P C Mohan and Limbavali stepped down from the vehicle. Both of them along with their party members walked to a house that looked a little bigger in size as compared to other houses in the area. An elderly person sat on a corner of the narrow lane. P C Mohan smiled and did namaste. His party members told to the elderly man to vote for P C Mohan.
The owner of the house came out and welcomed P C Mohan. He took both of them inside his house. Other party members who waited outside were given juice to drink. After this, all of them sat in their Innova and drove to another village. Their last stop was supposed to be Avalahalli village.
Citizens’ take on MP
We enquired with the locals about their feeling on MP. They seemed to be more acquainted with Limbavali than PC Mohan. Muralidhar, a 45-year-old labourer, said: “We saw P C Mohan five years ago, during the elections. After that we haven’t much heard about him. Limbavali keeps visiting us. He has helped us a lot.”
At the corner of the street stood a small grocery shop. Bhagyamma, a 60-year-old woman, runs this petty shop singlehandedly. Her husband is labourer at a construction site. Talking about the changes that Seegehalli has gone through in the last five years she said, “More and more apartments have come up in the last five years. We lost our land to them. Every day and night we face electricity cuts. Water is still a problem for us. They say they will bring down food prices, I want to ask them, how?” However, she says she will vote – she will not let her vote go waste.
