"Its high time they start the flyover project. The main bottleneck is at the Advaith petrol bunk junction; we have to wait for so long to pass that signal." says Viswanath Seetharam, who travels daily through the BTM main road.
The BTM main road leading to Silk Board, has heavy inflow of traffic as it connects to Electronic City, Koramangala and Outer Ring Road.
Auto rickshaw driver, Manjunath P M who drives every day in and around BTM layout, says, "I waste most of the time in ferrying just one passenger, it’s too difficult to move around here."
The traffic policemen seem to agree with the commuters. "A grade separator is badly needed at BTM 16th main. It will immensely help in the traffic flow. Similar projects have proved helpful at Jayadeva and at Dairy Circle," says, K C Lakshmi Narayan, Traffic Inspector, Madivala.
A plan to construct a grade separator at BTM 16th main junction is listed under BBMP’s projects. But the BTM layout Corporator says there are no funds.
"The traffic here is mad and all the plan details to start a flyover is ready. BBMP is running short of funds, that’s the only thing delaying this project," said GNR Babu, Corporator, BTM Layout.⊕
If they plan to come up with something to solve the problem at this junction they’ll need to do a comprehensive solution. There are 3 junctions which will need separators.
1. Advaith petrol pump one.
2. 29th Main
3. Silk board junction itself.
Otherwise you’ll just add the waiting time of 1 to 2.
I hope they don’t come up with a plan for flyovers. Underpasses should be enough for ORR traffic. Considering that traffic flows mainly towards Silk board in the mornings and towards Jayadeva during evenings, they can try to use the same set of underpasses for different directions. Have seen such lanes in the US and all. Better utilization of resources and space.
Trouble is that all traffic from Jayanagar, JP Nagar, B’ghatta road sides get funnelled into this one road at either 16th or 29th Main road. They can also try addressing that, some bridges across the drain near Hosur road so that people can use alternate routes and also not have buses headed to electronic city go all the way to Silk board can help. The increase in the signal timing at 29th main itself reduced the commute time from Jayadeva to Silk board by 10 minutes from 30 minutes. They should look for alternatives here if they don’t have budget. There will be some extra distance to be driven, but commute time can be reduced if the planning is good.
Dear Corporator bring some project at BTM which reduce every days traffic problem. if you can’t possible give a chance to a leader who can bring a flyover.
