Villivakkam, a prominent urban constituency in the city, presents a mix of long-established, densely-populated low-income residential areas, an industrial cluster, and rapidly expanding middle-class areas, some of which have given way to apartment complexes in recent years.
Once the largest constituency in the city, Villivakkam has shrunk in size as many constituencies, including Ambattur, Kolathur, Madhavaram, Maduravoyal, and Virugambakkam, were carved out of it following the delimitation process.
Areas that come under Villivakam including Villivakkam (North and South), Ayanavaram, and several surrounding divisions such as Viduthalai Guruswamy Nagar and Panneerselvam Nagar. One of the main developmental activities in this area is the Metro Train Construction, and lake restoration.

Candidates for 2026 Polls
DMK has fielded Karthik Mohan, a 45-year-old first-timer. He is also the son of the incumbent Anna Nagar MLA, MK Mohan. Aadhav Arjuna, Campaign Management General Secretary of TVK, S.R. Vijayakumar of AIADMK and S Roshini of NTK are among 28 candidates for the 2026 polls.
Roshini is the only transgender candidate to contest the election in 2026. She has vowed to make Villivakkam a model constituency.
Karthik has promised to establish a world-class library and knowledge hub near the upcoming Villivakkam Metro station. Skill development centres for the youth will be established in every ward, along with entrepreneurship hubs that offer mentorship and digital literacy training, he adds.
TVK’s Aadhav Arjuna lodged complaint against DMK for giving Rs.10,000 per vote.
Mr Karthick Mohan is a prominent candidate who is son of the current MLA in Anna Nagar. He is running door-to-door campaign focusing on infrastructure development and continuing “Dravida Model” of governance.

Vetriazhagan is one among the 5 MLAs nominated to the Senate of the University of Madras, 2021.
In his passionate first speech in the assembly, he spoke about the prominence of Tamil language.
A Vetriazhagan, grandson of veteran DMK leader K Anbazhagan, entered politics after a career in business. Notably, JCD Prabhakar had defeated his grandfather to win the same seat in 2011. And in 2021, Vetriazhagan defeated his grandfater’s political rival, JCD Prabhakar to represent the constituency.
