Meet Chandni Chowk MP, one of the 100 influential people in climate policy

Dr. Harsh Vardhan represents Chandni Chowk in Delhi as a Member of Parliament besides being the incumbent minister at the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Earth Sciences in the BJP-led NDA government.

His political journey started in 1992 when he was elected as member of Delhi State Assembly for the first time. He was contesting from the Krishna Nagar constituency. He has been re-elected from the same constituency four times – 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013. He has been a minister at the Health Ministry, Law Ministry and Education Ministry in Delhi.

In 2013 assembly elections, he was the BJP candidate for the chair of Chief Minister in New Delhi. He won Chandni Chowk Parliamentary Constituency in 2014.

Police complaints were filed against Dr. Harsh Vardhan for betraying people with false promises. The BJP MP had allegedly promised to deposit 15 lakh to every  bank account holder, according to Congress working President Rajesh Lilothia. 

In March India Cooling Action plan was launched by Dr. Harsh Vardhan. Cooling Action plan which has a long term vision to address the cooling requirement across sectors and lists out actions which can help reduce the cooling demand. 

The minister also featured in the list of “100 most influential people in Climate policy for 2019” along with Piyush Goyal.
