Bellandur Buzz…

Issue #13

July 2nd 2014

SF Spotfix

Residents of Springfields, working with the BBMP decided to take charge of the black spot outside their second exit gate which always gets dumped with garbage from across the street and used as a urinal too. This area is a no man’s land as its is Springfields private land maintained by them till the road widening comes about. Finally the dumping got so bad that the citizens decided to take charge. About ten to fifteen residents, assisted by BBMP’s workers and some of their own staff, worked the whole of Saturday morning to decimate the accumulated mounds of trash and debris, which were then removed by the BBMP trucks. Finally the walls were painted a cheerful shade of red and the electrical poles also got a fresh coat of paint. The pictures speak for themselves on the miraculous transformation. In fact, the work was so good that the contractor asked the team if they would be willing to join similar clean up drives across the city!

Hosa road repair – The bumpy ride continues….

Pic & Article Courtesy: Neetu Tandon: Potholes galore on Hosa road

Residents of Kasvanahalli Main Road had met the Corporator on 9th May to address the pathetic condition of this road. The corporator had promised to release the funds to get the road relayed in two months, but unfortunately nothing seems to have happened since then. Current condition of Hosa road is pathetic and due to large crater like pot-holes we are waiting for accidents to happen. It is a real nightmare for pregnant women, senior citizens and children to commute through this road. After running from pillar to post, the residents pursuing this issue came to know that Hosa Road comes under Major roads department. Residents then followed up with the Chief Engineer of Major roads to find out the status of this road and understand why the relaying is delayed. He has promised that after the complete estimation and passing of the tender, road asphalting and relaying will be done. This whole process will take another 2-3 months. Temporarily pot holes were fixed with mud and stones(!) but with recent rains and the high traffic density, that did not sustain even for a week.

A good number of residential as well as commercial complexes are approved on this road but this road does not have the capability of sustaining such scale of vehicular movement. Without any provision of proper drainage or plan of road-widening, it is difficult to understand how these projects are approved in the first place! All residents request immediate attention towards this issue and want to get this issue rectified on priority.

Plastic free challenge

The Plastic free month long challenge

Can you live without disposing a single piece of plastic for the whole of July?
This means saying no to plastic bags at the grocery store, No buying rice and daal in plastic covers, no bread in plastic wrap, no chocolates (obviously), no take-outs from restaurants in plastic boxes, no puja flowers delivered in plastic covers, no disposable sanitary napkins (Ahem, who’s up for that challenge!). You think you can do it? If yes, give it a try and show the world how it is done! Send us an essay of 500 word or less on your experience of trying to stay plastic free for the month of July. We will publish it in early august.

Email your essay to bellandur.forum@gmail.com. Pieces from kids are most welcome!

Here’s how Iblur lake is making progress

It has been about three months since an update on the status of Iblur lake rejuvenation was shared. So here is one. As the picture suggests, there is water! That is a great news indeed. It is far from full, but to get to this point required a fair bit of work. Copious rains over the lake body were not enough. We had to find ways to clean up inlets of roadside drains that could feed the lake. We now have 4 such inlets and we will add a couple more once the current roadworks are complete. Here are some…
