Kaikondrahalli Lake apporach road spotfix with The Ugly Indian

The main entrance of Kaikondrahalli lake used to be a mess of stagnating water, trash and construction debris dumped on the footpath and at the corner of the street. But no more! A bunch of residents with their kids descended quietly at the lake on a bright saturday morning. Greater part of the morning was spent in clearing trash, levelling mounds of dirt and painting the sidewalk. Monsieur dirt was vanqushed and Madame filth was cleared, leaving the volunteers drained but satisfied. Many thanks to those who contributed monetarily, to BBMP engineers for providing support and of course to The Ugly Indian for the inspiration and expert help and advice. More pictures from the clean up event can be found at  https://www.facebook.com/sarjapurroadrising. Watch this space for upcoming spotfixes in the neighborhood!

Sobha drain work progress report

Work progresses, albeit at snail’s pace.  Storm water drain on either side of the road from Food palace/Sobha Hibiscus to HDFC end is almost complete and from Apollo Pharmacy to Sobha Daisy end is underway.  Materials for road laying has arrived but some of it was found to be sub-standard, so after protracted negotiations between representatives of SBTF and BBMP engineers, these are being replaced.

Apart from this, there are the usual stumbling blocks. First,  the newly dug trench accidently opened an underground chamber of a pipe that brings sewage from the green Glenn layout. This caused flooding of the trench with sewage. Another stretch of the road has so many haphazardly laid underground high voltage cables that it is impossible to make a trench on either side of the road. Now the contractor will have to dig a trench in the middle of the road. Finally, BBMP is  unable to lay the drain right up to the lake,  as there is a private property in the way. If it rains,  the area around Sobha Lavender will be flooded. The road can be made only after the drain is completed.

Here’s how Iblur lake is making progress

It has been about three months since an update on the status of Iblur lake rejuvenation was shared. So here is one. As the picture suggests, there is water! That is a great news indeed. It is far from full, but to get to this point required a fair bit of work. Copious rains over the lake body were not enough. We had to find ways to clean up inlets of roadside drains that could feed the lake. We now have 4 such inlets and we will add a couple more once the current roadworks are complete. Here are some…
