Padmanabhanagar constituency is in the south of the city, mostly a residential area and close to the highway leading to Kanakpura. This area has mostly Brahmins and Vokkaligas. It has eight BBMP wards – Padmanabhanagar, Ganesha Mandira, Yediyur, Hosakerehalli, Karisandra, Banashankari Devasthana, Kumaraswamy Layout and Chikka Kallasandra. Some important landmarks here include PESIT and Dayananda Sagar institutions and ‘Deve Gowda petrol pump’. The former Chief Minister, Deve Gowda lives here, as does the poet G S Shivarudrappa.

Some areas here, such as Katriguppe, Ilyasnagar, Kaverinagar, Hittamandu and Umar Bagh show signs of utter neglect. They do not seem to have been given fundamental care or provision of healthcare. Poor, worn out sanitary lines, a lot of mosquitoes and stray dogs are other issues. ubiquitous mobile towers, overflowing manholes and lack of garbage disposal are also important issues. Vasanthpura Kalyani Lake has traditionally been associated with rich cultural rejuvenation, but now its encroachment and contaminations with sewage water are an issue of concern.

  • Number of voters in 2008:1,18, 689
  • Number of voters in 2013: 1,28,426
