Honourable CM of karnataka visits Kaikondrahalli lake

The CM visited @Kaikondrahalli lake last Saturday. PC Mohan (our MP), Ramalinga Reddy (Minister in charge of Bangalore, BTM MLA), Krishna Byregowda (Agri minister and Bytarayanapura MLA), Haris (Shantinagar MLA), Arvind Limbavali (Mahadevapur MLA) BWSSB chief Anjum Parvez, DC Harish Naik, Devraj (Mahadevapura JC), EE, AEE, Env Engineer etc – were some of the political reps/officials spotted. It looked like the entire Bellandur ward/Mahadevadpura zonal BBMP staff were there. Plus maybe a few hundred other people!

CM heard about issues of violations of wetlands, sensitive zone, buffer zone, unplanned violations etc.

Meanwhile after heavy rains, residents were alarmed after noticing ‘foam’ in the back entry of the Kaikondrahalli lake. This is not out of ordinary. Due to increased volume of flow of water during rainy season, some sewage from the accumulated pool around makes its way into the lake. Good news, sewage entering the lake is diluted with rain water. Bad news, it is still sewage and lake is surrounded with it (yes sir, you go tramping in the woods, you know what you are stepping on – human waste)! During dry season, lake staff actively blocks the inlets to ensure that no sewage flows into the lake. In the wet season, inlets are opened so that water levels are recharged with rainwater albeit with a dash of sewage.

Buying compost from KCDC? Beware.

Garbage is being burnt in the open near Chikkanayakanahalli, a few kilometers from Wipro office on Sarjapura road where there are multiple schools, and then mixed with soil to be packaged and sold as KCDC-branded vermicompost! All the more reason to manage our waste reponsibly and hand over to authorized waste vendors!

Here’s how Iblur lake is making progress

It has been about three months since an update on the status of Iblur lake rejuvenation was shared. So here is one. As the picture suggests, there is water! That is a great news indeed. We had to find ways to clean up inlets of roadside drains that could feed the lake. We now have 4 such inlets and we will add a couple more once the current roadworks are complete. Here are some…
