The Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike has launched a joint campaign with Citizens for Bengaluru called the ‘Bus Bhagya Beku’ campaign, that demands the State Government to provide financial support to BMTC to ‘Halve the Fares, and Double the Fleet’. About 50 lakh commuters use BMTC services every day, thus making BMTC the backbone of Bangalore city. And yet, this mode of public transport is highly neglected, and too expensive for many to use. In addition, traffic congestion in Bangalore is caused by private vehicles, especially cars. And we feel that the only solution to reducing such congestion and air pollution is for people to move from using private vehicles to using public transport.
We started the ‘Bus Bhagya Beku’ campaign to put pressure on the Government of Karnataka to release funds and a long term solution for BMTC.
As part of this campaign, we are hosting a ‘Bus Yatra’ on March 4th (Saturday), and we request you to join hands with us to demand an efficient and reliable public transport system in Bangalore. Take a bus to the Shantinagar TTMC by 11 am!
Ideally, we would like you to join one of these five locations, so we can go as a group: Shivaji Nagar, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Majestic or Koramangala.
Please join the Whatsapp group for the location you will be joining for more information and getting in touch with others coming to the same location.
We will be meeting the BMTC Chairman, BMTC MD and the Transport Minister at Shanti Nagar upon arrival at 11AM and will submit our memorandum. We will be joined by Kannada actresses Shraddha Srinath and Bhargavi Narayan, Thermal and a Quarter’s Bruce Lee Mani, Classical Singer Ashwin Sharma and Journalist Vasanthi Hariprakash.
