BBMP’s Education Committee held a meeting on 24th September to discuss about basic infrastructure, playgrounds, cleanliness, and improvement of education in all BBMP Schools and Colleges. The Committee observed that basic infrastructure like drinking water, washrooms, etc was lacking in most schools.
Some schools, like those in Magadi Road, had shortage of classrooms. Some others held primary classes in the morning and college classes in the afternoons. Hence the Committee requested BBMP to construct more classrooms and to have top BBMP officials make frequent inspections to schools and colleges to check their functioning and infrastructure.
The Commissioner mentioned that 10% of BBMP funds were meant for improvement of education and, if necessary, another 10% would be released.
The Principals of all the schools and colleges also participated in the meeting and they reported about academic records of their respective schools and measures were they were taking to improve them. They were instructed to improve the attendance levels of students and to submit a list of their needs so that students could get all the facilities.
All committee members unanimously agreed to work together for the betterment of children’s education.
