Arakere Lake, located on Banerghatta road is one of the several dying lakes in Bangalore. To restore this lake to its previous glory, a team of environment conscious citizens comprising of Arbind Gupta ( president), Amitabha Saha Roy, Meeta, Vandana Veena, Aradhana , Amit came together and formed a trust – Arakere Neighbourhood improvement Trust ( ANIT )
hey are planning awareness campaigns to engage more citizens. In order to raise funds for the campaign, they decided that Amitabha, a photography enthusiast and a keen naturalist, would hold a photography workshop at Classic Orchards, Bannerghatta Road.
There were 18 people who attended the workshop, from all over Bangalore. Amitabha explained the basics of the camera and photography over the period of one day. The feedback was very positive.
ANiT now plans awareness campaigns in November, with inputs from Maaruthi Magnolia and BGS NPS (National Public School). The school children will have presentations for them, painting competition, and everyone will form a human chain around the lake,
The Trust has so far conducted seminars involving various Lake restorations teams in Bangalore. They have engaged with BDA, BBMP and LDA officials. A detailed Project report (DPR ) is now ready, they lake has been surveyed by the Tashildar for encroachments.
