‘Second to none’ is a group of volunteers who are trying to practice and encourage everyone to practice a life of reuse, recycle, reduce waste and replenish resources. We aim to do this by sharing recycling ideas, discussing ways to reduce consumption of harmful materials and encourage buying used goods instead of new. The activities and discussions could occur through this blog, on our Facebook page and through events like the periodic flea markets that we plan to organise.
We’re creating this space for people to meet, buy and sell used goods instead of chucking them away and contributing to landfill. Encouraging everyone to reuse more, buy less, consume less, waste less. And the first flea market will be at Jaaga, on July 30th and 31st, 2011.
It’s the first of many events that we, as Bengalureans ourselves, are sure people will love. We’ve been missing something of this nature in the city for a long time! It will be the place to go to to buy used books, music, rock memorabilia, decor, artifacts, cans, jars, kitchen appliances, accessories, art, anything that can be recycled, reused, upcycled, you name it.
We plan to have speakers talk to the visitors about going green – waste segregation and management, organic gardening, composting at home, entrepreneurship in recycling, and similar subjects at each of our events.
Most important of all – the aim is to create a community that isn’t prejudiced about re-using used goods and recycling.
The team is currently Anupama Gummaraju, Shilpa Kamath and Reena Chengappa.

Reusing the old products my help to conserve energy and environment. Many electronic appliances have hazardous chemicals and dangerous metals (lead) in it. Instead of throwing it away, it is a good practice to collect all the used appliances and provide it to the waste collection department for recycling.
