Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation outlining the responsibilities of the citizens in ensuring the safety of all during the ongoing health crisis. He urged citizens to follow social distancing and avoid stepping out unless necessary. All public events until March 31 are deemed cancelled.

PM Modi called for the cooperation of the citizens to carry out a one day ‘Janata Curfew’ on March 22nd. The citizens are to remain home. At 5 pm in the evening, the country was asked to come together to show their appreciation for the healthcare workers working tirelessly during the pandemic.

Kerala government confirmed its 25th case in the state. In a move to provide cash in hand to people struggling under the circumstances, a relief package of Rs 20,000 crore was announced. This would transfer cash to the tune of Rs 2500 per month to citizens to tide over the crisis. 

A partial shutdown was announced in Maharashtra with the state registering the highest number of cases in the country. The shutdown will see workplaces switch to remote work in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur among other places. Government offices will function at reduced capacity and on rotation basis. Public transport will remain functional.
